SUGAR PLUM FESTIVALS

Today's post I'd like to share an underrated black comedy super natural film directed by Peter Jackson (of LOTR fame).

It's wonderfully creepy, haunting and mild gore.

I say underrated because I never see it played on regular TV - although it appears to be available on numerous streaming services. It may not be on public TV due to how the serial killer kills the victims before death and after  - it's a movie, it's make believe, so that's how it should be seen - not compared to real life horrors (which I understand happens - but again, it's a movie).

The movie:

THE FRIGHTNERS

Released in 1996 - it tells the story of Frank Bannister (Michael J. Fox) who gains physic abilities allowing him to communicate with the dead after he see's his wife being murdered.

He initially uses these powers to befriend the dead, who then haunt houses for Frank who then offers his "exorcism" scam services to get rid of the ghosts.

All until an entity seen as the Grim Reaper appears whom attacks the living and dead, prompting Frank to do an actual serious investigation.

As he investigates, a dark history returns to haunt the town and it's people - including Frank especially.

I would definitely NOT recommend for young children - there is violence and death, and adult humor.

The film masterful music score is created by none other than: DANNY ELFMAN!

The 2 most creepiest characters...?!

Milton Chambers (played by Jeffrey Combs)

A sadistic FBI Agent

Johnny Bartlett (played masterfully by Jake Busey)

The Mass Murderer

I would highly recommend - watch it and enjoy!

It's one of my favorites!
