 ~Disney's Haunted Mansion-Behind the Scenes~

Today we have a view back scene of how the Disney Imagineers creatively planned space management for The Haunted Mansion...

Behind The Scenes

Building Layout and Space Management

The original Disneyland Haunted Mansion required clever space management in a theme park that has always contended with a lack of space.

When the New Orleans Square area was added in the early 1960s, there was no more room in that quarter of the park for large attractions.

The Imagineers therefore placed the bulk of the two major attractions — Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion — outside the park's earthen berm.

The famed "stretching rooms" were implemented simply so guests could be moved underground and outside of the park without them knowing.

Most guests do not realize that the portrait hall is actually an underground passage leading under the berm behind the mansion façade.

As they enter the loading area, they pass beneath the Disneyland Railroad's tracks and into a vast, approximately 37,000 square feet (3,400 m2), soundstage-like show building located outside the park boundaries.

Painted dull green like most Disneyland show buildings, this 35-foot (11 m)-tall facility is roughly rectangular, with a front section that is covered by the berm and through which the train tunnel passes.

Guests may catch a very brief glimpse of the building while riding the tram from the Mickey and Friends parking structure, or by boarding the Disneyland Railroad at the New Orleans Square station and facing backwards in the train.

However, the show building has no visible above-ground connection to the themed façade within the park.

The show building extends an additional 10 feet (3.0 m) below the backstage ground level, though much of the attraction takes place around ground level.

The layout of the track is convoluted, but it's essentially a clockwise loop that runs through the outer areas of the building.

Smaller scenes such as the conservatory and parts of the attic lay outside the loop formed by the track, but most of the major scenes take place on the inside of this loop.

This leads to some interesting spatial relationships between them. For example, the organ in the ballroom is back-to-back with a number of crypts in the graveyard, and the back of the loading area shares a wall with the endless corridor.

In future posts I'll share about the backstage areas of The Haunted Mansion!

Today I'd like to share photos of Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong at Halloween!

Not too much information about whether these theme parks go all out - America is the primary country on the globe to celebrate Halloween. Other countries seem to be "catching" up celebrating it, but only in the visual sense.

PARIS

Beautiful Halloween displays! They do have face painting artists painting faces - but costume dressing not so much for either Cast Members and patrons.

The Haunted Mansion's (Phantom Manor) storyline is connected with Big Thunder Mountain (which is right next to it). The storyline is HUGE - too long to even want to narrate.  But if you'd like too read it, click this link:

I do use the Phantom Mansion's soundtrack in my music que - the female phantom singing/humming the Haunted Mansion tune is awesome!

I do love the Grim Reaper pulling the ferry of "souls"! Esthetically - awesome. Halloween spirit - eh.

Hong Kong Halloween

HUGE HALLOWEEN PARADE with a HUGE JACK SKELLINGTON!

Why Anaheim Disneyland doesn't have this, I have no idea - BUT WE NEED ONE!

I also found a few neat creepy displays at Hong Kong!

Halloween esthetics appears to be focused on Nightmare Before Christmas (LOVE IT!) and the Hong Kong Disneyland actually allows creepy zombie Cast Members! Anaheim does not allow it (in fear of being "too scary").

Patrons appear to try to be in costume (did not supply those photos) - but not like here in America - but hey, they're trying!

Below is a link of the parade. FOR ME, OF COURSE, it's all about JACK!

I think you'll agree - Anaheim needs a HUGE JACK SKELLINGTON!

They serve a Black Sausage Hot Dog and a Black Gyoza Bun...
I'll pass!

Hong Kong Disneyland does have their own version of Haunted Holiday Mansion adorned with Nightmare Before Christmas - but I'll save that for later!

(Paris doesn't do Nightmare Before Christmas - BEYOND HORRIBLE!)

Today I'd like to share elaborate, creative and beautiful  Easter Bonnets!

Easter Parades were quite popular! Women would be adorned with elaborate and whimsical Easter bonnets!

I found some from the olden days with an absolute sense of humor - what fun it must have been!

It encourages me to submit a new tradition to my family to create Easter Bonnets, and Hats (for the guys!)!

There are some creative hats adorned by men and children as well!

Another great Easter tradition to start is have the kid's (and adults too!) create Easter bonnets and hats at your Easter gathering! With hot glue and wire - anything is possible! (Adult supervision for hot glue use!) Maybe it can give you ideas to create your own and start your own tradition!

"In your Easter bonnet, with all the frills upon it,

You'll be the grandest lady in the Easter parade.

I'll be all in clover and when they look you over,

I'll be the proudest fellow in the Easter parade.

On the Avenue, Fifth Avenue, the photographers will snap us,

And you'll find that you're in the *Rotogravure.

Oh, I could write a sonnet about your Easter bonnet,

And of the girl I'm taking to the Easter parade."

Irving Berlin

(*a sheet or magazine printed by Rotogravure, especially the color magazine of a Sunday newspaper)

I WANT THIS HAT!

Fur babies can participate too!

Now the oldies but goodies!...

Actress Ann Miller...is that a real rabbit in her hat?!

Creepy... I love it.

Vogue Bunny Ears - classic!

Excited about adorning an Easter Bonnet this Sunday at your gathering, but don't have the time to create one?!
