Today's post is another urban legend from the state of GEORGIA

LAKE LANIER

Lake Lanier outside of Atlanta was created by flooding a valley that swallowed at least one cemetery, and the spirits of the people who are now in watery graves apparently reach out to swimmers spending a day at the lake.

Lake Lanier in northern Georgia has been known for its hauntings since the 1950s. Some say the lake is haunted by its past, including the displacement of communities, hundreds of deaths in lake accidents, and the memories of people who once lived there...

Displacement of communities

In 1956, the lake was built over a community of more than 700 families, most of whom were people of color. Some say the lake is haunted by the memories of those people.

Deaths in lake accidents

The lake has seen hundreds of deaths in accidents over the years, including the 1958 disappearance of two young girls who fell off a bridge while crossing the lake. Locals claim to see one of the victims, Delia May Parker Young, haunting the lake and dragging people to the bottom.

Urban legends

Tales of ghostly apparitions, phantom boats, and cursed artifacts have perpetuated the myth of the lake's hauntings. However, there is no empirical evidence to support the existence of ghosts or hauntings.

Lake Lanier is also featured in the Netflix series Files of the Unexplained, which has an episode about the lake's mysterious and spooky tales, as well as a soft horror movie created about

the urban legend of Lake Lanier!
